After four years of hard work, persistence and dedication, the long wait has paid off when the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) en banc recently approved the coveted recognition for Makilala Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) as a Higher Education Institution (HEI) in the Municipality of Makilala.
During the Investiture of Dr. Gerardo A. Rigonan, as the new College President held Friday morning at the Primitivo Martinez Gymnasium, no less than the CHED 12 Regional Director Maximo Aljibe read the excerpt from the minutes of the CHED en banc Resolution No. 463-2017, declaring MIST as the newly recognized Higher Education Institution in the entire region.
The resolution was issued last July 17, 2017 signed by CHED Chairperson Patricia Licuanan after a deliberation was done on July 4, 2017 by the members of CHED en banc held at the commission headquarters in Quezon City.
Prior to the resolution, Director Aljibe first indorsed to the commission central office the MIST recognition before members of the CHED National Task Force visited the school for final evaluation on March 17-19, 2017.
The resolution also ordered Director Aljibe to constantly monitor the newly CHED recognized HEI in Makilala ensure MIST compliance on the existing guidelines set by the commission.
Director Aljibe commended Mayor Caoagdan and the members of the Municipal Council of Makilala for their persistence and dedication to provide the youth the opportunity to pursue their respective dreams and aspiration by providing them absolutely free tertiary education through the MIST.
As newly recognized HEI, MIST is now entitled to receive government subsidy through CHED for the tuition of the enrolled students on behalf of the Local Government (LGU) of Makilala, which runs the education institution.
The MIST was established in June, 2014 through a Sanggunian Bayan Ordinance No. 08-2014 passed and approved on June 6, 2014.
Since school has been offering courses since it was established in 2014 as BS in Entrepreneurship, Associate in Computer Technology, BS in Agriculture, Bachelor in Agricultural Technology, Bachelor in Public Administration and BA in Midwifery. Vocational and Technical courses were also offered.
In June, 2016 the MIST established the Grade 11 and the following year, Grade 12 also started, offering all stands in the Academic Track.
