The Department of Health 12 donated on Monday, July 17, 2017 at least 50 brand new wheelchairs to the Municipality of Makilala as its commitment to support the Local Government Units (LGUs) in providing services to their constituencies.
According to Persons with Disabilities Focal Person Teresita Poria, the wheelchairs arrived on Monday, July 17, 2017 and were received by Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Lina Canedo, in time for the observance of the Disabilities Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, which started on the same day.
Poria said, the wheelchairs would be distributed to the selected beneficiaries on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 during the scheduled program at the Municipal Gymnasium as the highlight of the week long observance of the Disabilities Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.
Poria clarified that only 18 beneficiaries would be given wheelchairs during the distribution, after they were proven worthy to receive the wheelchairs during the evaluation and assessment conducted by the MSWDO.
Poria further said, the remaining 32 applicants are still being assessed and evaluated, before considering them as beneficiaries, who are mostly PWDs of Makilala.
The Disabilities Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, which culminates on Friday, July 21, 2017 anchors on the theme “ Karapatan at Prebelehiyo ng may Kapansanan, Isakatuparan at Ipaglaban.”
