DSC_3370Mayor Rudy Caoagdan announced during a breakfast meeting with the leadership of Barangay Luna Sur that Makilala is now declared under the State of Calamity.

According to Mayor Caoagdan the Sanguniang Bayan of Makilala passed Resolution no. 647-2016 last March 10, 2016 declaring the entire Municipality of Makilala under the State of Calamity due to long drought.

Accordingly, Mayor Caoagdan as chairman of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council sent a letter request for consideration of the Sanguniang Bayan to declare Makilala under the State of Calamity in order implement necessary measures to cushion the effects of the drought.

The resolution as unanimously adopted and approved by the Sanguniang Bayan hereby authorizes the Local Chief Executive to utilize the thirty (30) % Calamity Fund for Calendar year 2016 to mitigate and lessen the effects of the El Nino that the municipality is undergoing.

As stated in the resolution the Sanguniang Bayan found it appropriate to institute measures to cushion the impact of the calamity after a thorough deliberation and saw the need to declare the state of calamity in order to utilize the calamity funds.

With the declaration, Mayor Caoagdan said that the Local government unit is now ready to purchase supplies and mobilize emergency contingency measures as the need arises to respond to the effects of the long drought brought about by the El Niño phenomenon.
